What is a Community Nurse?

A community nurse holds a crucial role in directly delivering healthcare services to individuals and families within their community. Can I access nursing services funded through the NDIS?

Community nursing services can be considered as part of an NDIS participant's plan if they are essential for managing the individual's disability-related needs. If you have high support needs, you can receive NDIS funding for nursing care under the Capacity Building Supports category. This can encompass a range of services, such as medication management, wound care, health monitoring, and more. Keep in mind that the NDIS will only fund nursing services that are related to your disability. It doesn’t fund medication, general medical treatment, hospitalisation or surgery.

Tube Feeding

Assistance with tube feeding and ensuring proper nutrition for participants who require it.

Wound Management and Stoma Care

Support for managing both basic and complex wounds such as Vac dressings, and maintenance of stomas

Catheter Care

Assistance with catheter insertions, maintenance and care, if required by the participant.

Health Monitoring

Regular health assessments, monitoring vital signs, and providing health-related advice.

Pain Management

Support with managing chronic pain or discomfort related to the participant's disability.

Ventilation Support

Assistance with respiratory equipment and interventions for participants with breathing difficulties.

Peg Feeding
